Area Forecast Discussion
National Weather Service Tulsa OK
1226 PM CDT Sun Jul 27 2025

...New SHORT TERM, LONG TERM, AVIATION...

.KEY MESSAGES...
Issued at 1225 PM CDT Sun Jul 27 2025

 - Dangerous heat and humidity likely to continue through mid
   week. Expect daily heat headlines.

 - Low thunderstorm chances from southeast Oklahoma into
northwest Arkansas this afternoon, with highly localized heavy
   rain and flooding potential.

- Cooler conditions and low thunderstorm chances late next week
  into the weekend.

&&

.SHORT TERM...
(Through Tonight)
Issued at 1221 PM CDT Sun Jul 27 2025

The persistent heat and humidity continues today, with dew points
running a couple of degrees cooler than 24 hours ago although they
are still in the mid and locally, upper 70s in most spots. Cloud
cover is not as great as it was yesterday near the Kansas border,
allowing for temperatures in the upper 80s already at 11 am and heat
index values approaching triple digits. While this portion of
northeast Oklahoma may need to be monitored for a potential upgrade
to a warning, the overall thinking is that the existing Heat
Advisory will likely cover the heat threat today. The deep moisture
axis today extends from southeast Oklahoma into western Arkansas,
focusing continued potential for isolated thunderstorms this
afternoon in this portion of the forecast area, including a chance
of highly localized heavy rain and flooding given existing
precipitable water values and slow storm motions. This activity
should diminish by early evening. A warm and humid night should
follow with lows from the mid 70s to locally, near 80.

&&

.LONG TERM...
(Monday through Sunday)
Issued at 1221 PM CDT Sun Jul 27 2025

Heat, humidity and a lack of rainfall will prevail through the
middle of the week as upper level high pressure continues to shift
westward over the area. Yet another Heat Advisory will be issued
today, covering the entire forecast area, with a modest decrease in
dew points countered by warmer temperatures. Similar conditions can
be expected to extend into Tuesday and Wednesday, with a degree or
two uptick in afternoon temperatures by Wednesday in comparison with
expectations on Monday. At least Heat Advisories will be required
both days, with potential for localized warning criteria heat
indices depending on dew point trends.

A change in the pattern remains in the offing late in the week and
into the next weekend, with northwest flow aloft developing and
cooler and less humid conditions moving into at least a portion of
the area behind a cold front. It remains likely that southern parts
of the area will remain in the heat and humidity longer than areas
to the north. The pattern change will also bring daily low shower
and thunderstorm chances to the region.

.AVIATION...
(18Z TAFS)
Issued at 1221 PM CDT Sun Jul 27 2025

VFR conditions will prevail through the forecast period for all
terminals. Isolated afternoon showers and thunderstorms remain
possible this afternoon from southeast OK into northwest AR, with
coverage too limited to include. However, any direct impact could
result in a brief period of IFR vsbys in heavy rain. Any
convection will dissipate after sunset.
